One of the key aspects of audio files is the fact that you can play them on mostly any device. Thanks to modern technology, music can be streamed as well, allowing you to play it without having the actual files on your device. This is what you can do with Airfoil. It lets you send music to various devices, such as iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs and other wireless devices you may have around the house. You can also send your music to other PCs or Macs. If someone is using your computer, you can still play your favorite music, on other devices, without copying the files.

It takes only two clicks to install the application on a default path. Its setup package is about 7.30 MB, which should not take long to download, even if your Internet connection is not fast enough. The best part is that Airfoil comes in Windows, Mac OS X and Linux editions. Besides the application's files, the setup wizard will also install Airfoil Speakers, which can turn pretty much any device into an Airport Express unit.

Airfoil comes with a simple user interface, which allows anyone to get started without any difficulties. Furthermore, its functionality is very straightforward. If you run Airfoil Speakers on a wireless device, the main software will detect it right away. Detected devices are listed on Airfoil's compact interface and you can start streaming your music, to one of your devices, by clicking an icon, next to its name.

Before streaming your music, you must select a media player or another application that can play music, from a drop menu. Airfoil will detect your installed media players and web browsers automatically, so you will find them, in the aforementioned drop menu, right away. The application is capable of sending music from any media player, as well as streamed music from your web browser. What's more, it can send your music to multiple devices at the same time.

When using Airfoil Speakers, on the receiving end, you may stop or resume the connection at any time. You can also find playback and volume controls, which make it possible to pause the music, jump to the next track and so on. When sending music, you can use separate volume controls, for each device. Other options allow you to mute or disconnect all devices at once. It is also possible to bring up an equalizer and set up various effects.

Pros

You can stream music to almost any wireless device. The software lets you send music to one or more devices at the same time, from media players, web browsers and any other application that is capable of playing music. Airfoil Speakers's interface includes options for connecting or disconnecting, volume and playback controls.

Cons

When using the application's trial version, you can not use the playback controls, on Airfoil Speakers's interface and the sound is a bit noisy. Airfoil's unique features allow you to play music from your hard drive on any wireless device in your house, without making any kind of configurations.
