Airfoil

If you have a wireless network in your house, you can use Airfoil to stream music to any devices you may have laying about. Setting up the application and choosing how and where to stream is quite easy. In a few minutes, you will be able to play your favorite songs anywhere in your house, on any wireless-enabled device, without having the actual files on that device.

Airfoil consists of two modules: a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter, known simply as Airfoil, needs to be launched on the computer from which you intend to stream music. It automatically detects all wireless devices around your computer and it displays them on its compact user interface. You can choose a volume level or mute the sound for each listed device.

A more important feature of Airfoil is the possibility of choosing a streaming source. Instead of broadcasting each or other sounds your system makes, the application can transmit the sounds from specific applications, like iTunes, Safari, QuickTime or other applications of your choice. Of course, you can still broadcast the general system audio or from a microphone. What's more, Airfoil places an equalizer at your disposal, which affects the stream for all devices.

Obviously, the receiving module, known as Airfoil Speakers, has to be installed on your destination devices. Airfoil can stream to other Macs, PCs, mobile devices, Apple TVs or platforms. The receiver's user interface is even simpler. It displays the streaming source or sources on your network. All you have to do is click a button, next to a source to start receiving the audio signal.
